A ground-out stump is the last step that actually finishes a tree job. Leave it in and you get a trip hazard, a mowing obstacle, regrowth suckers, and an open invitation to termites and white ants across Perth's sandy northern-suburbs soils. Grind it out and you reclaim the space for lawn, garden, paving or a new plant.
Innaloo Tree Loppers and Tree Removal connects you with fully insured local crews who grind stumps below ground level across Innaloo, Osborne Park, Balcatta and the wider area — priced upfront, from our real premises on Scarborough Beach Road. Rated 5.0 from 9 Google reviews.
Why grind rather than dig?
Digging out a mature tuart or marri stump by hand is brutal work and tears up far more of your yard than it needs to. A mechanical grinder chews the stump — and the major surface roots — down into mulch in a fraction of the time, with almost no disturbance to the surrounding lawn or beds. On the tight blocks common through the northern suburbs, a compact grinder fits through a standard side gate, so even a backyard stump behind the house is no problem.
What you get
- Stump ground to roughly 20–30 cm below the surface (deeper on request)
- Major surface roots dealt with
- Grindings raked out and removed, or backfilled — your call
- A clean, level, usable surface ready for turf, paving or planting
- An upfront price before the machine starts
A natural pairing
Most stump grinding follows a tree removal — book them together and the whole job is finished in one visit, with the green waste chipped or hauled away so nothing is left behind. If a tree is still standing but out of hand, start with tree lopping or tree pruning instead.

How deep do you grind a stump?
Typically 20 to 30 cm below the surface — enough to lay lawn, garden bed, paving or turf over the top. If you are planning to build or plant a new tree right on the spot, tell us and the crew can grind deeper.
Do you remove the grindings and roots?
The stump grinds down into mulch, which can be raised out and taken away or left to backfill the hole, whichever you prefer. Major surface roots can be ground too. You get a clear, usable surface, not a mess to deal with yourself.
Can you grind a stump in a tight Innaloo backyard?
Yes. Grinders come in various sizes, including compact machines that fit through a standard side gate — handy on the narrow-access blocks common across Innaloo, Doubleview and Tuart Hill. We confirm access when we quote.
